Jan has been an incredible trainer for our five month old German shepherd. She knows exactly what she’s doing and we have already seen major improvements in our dogs behavior after one class.
My puppy was driving me up the wall. Jan's advice was key in turning this pup to the right track. He went from peeing in my shoe to no accidents in the house over night. Her puppy class is great. I'm a first time dog owner and I'm keen on having a certified good boy. These classes help me feel confident and reassured he's making progress.
Jan offers great obedience training. Our agility training with Kelsey has taught us so much. Would recommend all classes with Live Oak Dog Obedience Utah!
First off, I want to start by saying that I love Jan's approach to training!!!! Also, I want to be completely transparent and let you know that I have not been compensated in any way for my review. My husband and I went on Friday 8/16/24 with our pup. Our session was a little over an hour, we left feeling confident with what we had learned and implemented the training immediately. Even when we got home that night, my family could tell there was improvement. We honestly feel like we have a completely different dog than we did prior to the session on Friday. She wasn't a terrible dog before by any means, but there were things that had they gone unaddressed, they would have continually got worse and who wants that. My pup is only 16 weeks old and potty training was still something we were working on before this class. However, using her methods we have not had one accident in our home which is HUGE! She answered all of my questions and didnt make me/us feel stupid. She was very honest and sometimes told me things that I didn't want to hear which is important and I really respected her for this. At the end of the day, my family and I want to have a happy dog with good manners. She coached and trained the dog owners which is a different approach but bygolly, it works. If you are considering using her services and you are feeling hesitant, I want you to know that if you go to one of her classes you are in the best of hands and you will be so glad you went. Please give her a try. Also, prices are really reasonable!!!! Thank you Jan, you are a God send and we are so grateful for you.
I’ve worked with a number of trainers over the years, and HANDS DOWN, Jan Perkins is the BEST! I wish it was mandatory for people to take training classes in order to own a dog. We started attending puppy classes with Jan as soon as we could, which I think was around 11 weeks old. Maggi was a dominant handful from the beginning. She wasn’t as “eager to please” as other dogs, but she really wanted to be in charge. As soon as we could, we got an e-collar and went through training with Jan. We were starting to make progress in training Maggi, helping her understand her boundaries. After about 6 months, we moved to the intermediate class, which was a big win! We spent A LONG TIME in that class before Maggi graduated to Advanced. Jan was fantastic at reminding us of the following: *Each dog is different and DO NOT compare your dog’s performance to any other dogs. * This is NOT a competition. * Class is REALLY about training the HUMAN about canine behavior & consistency (less so about the dog). FIVE STARS for Jan Perkins! :)
My career as a school psychologist led me to fulfilling a lifelong dream of training a dog to be a therapy dog. Jan has been the biggest blessing and reason that Stu and I have been as successful as we have been. She is incredibly supportive, willing to listen to what you want/need, and will help guide you to have the best relationship with your dog possible. Thanks to Jan, Stu has been able to change the lives of the students and adults that I work with (as well as make my life) to be exponentially better. Jan is THE best!
We showed up 4 years ago with a dog that wouldn’t let you touch him, if you did he would attack and latch on to your hand and it was terrifying. I decided to find a trainer and i found Jan and she changed not only my dogs life but my whole families life. She is patient, thorough and so knowledgeable. There are so many things as humans we think are right when it comes to training our animals, but Jan explains things to us from a dogs perspective and point of view. Once you are able to see things from your dogs point of view the whole world changes. Now my dog is in the advanced class and loves to go and learn new things and learn positive interactions with other dogs. (As you can see in the photo he is surrounded by other dogs which we wouldn’t have ever been able to do before) I will forever send everyone Jan’s way because i saw first hand what she was able to do for my dog who is my child by the way. I don’t trust him with just anyone. We will be here for many years to come!
Jan is quite knowledgeable and gifted at understanding dog behavior. My three Mini Dachshund puppies have been taking obedience classes at Live Oak for 6 months now. I never thought I would be able to take all three pups on a walk at the same time with them behaving so well and no pulling on the leashes. YEAH! 🙌🏼 👏🏼
Really nice place. Works with you and your dog and has so many different fun classes, I m excited to try more out!
After one class I can already see an improvement in my very shy puppy. Looking forward to more classes.
Jan seems very confident in her profession. I feel she does spend to much time on stores. I would like to have her explain why certain things are necessary, for basic training and how they apply to service dogs . Feel River is a little more advanced than the classes we have been in
Jan is knowable about dogs and training. Plesant to deal with and realizes what your goals are.
Me and my dog have only completed the novice class, but already I see a change in her behavior. She is much calmer and is responding will to all the new training. Jan is great and helps with all behaviors.
Best training for dog and owner! Jan works practical, understandable magic. Try her!! Youll stay
Jan was great and immediately helped me understand how to train my dog. Very excited for more sessions with her!
Jan is an amazing person. Always here to answer any questions, and very knowledgeable. She cares about the dog and teaching people how to have a stress free dog life. I love it!
Excellent work she work whit the human and that perfect for me and my dogs
Our experience has been outstanding. We are training a now 12 week old golden retreiver puppy who is making great progress thanks to Jan Perkins. The training methods are effective, sustainable and it includes conditioning so that the training will last. It is now 2 years later and our puppy is now 2 1/2 years old and is the best behaved dog we have ever had. He is full of energy and love for everyone and he is happy because he knows his boundaries and how do be polite around people and other dogs. The foundation I learned as a handler and Rusty learned as my dog makes having a high energy dog a joy.
Did not listen to me when consulting over the phone. Arrived at her recommended class to find it was not tailored to what we had discussed. Just about spent time and money to address items that were nothing to do with the issue I needed the training for. On top of all that, Jan could not remember in the class that we discussed those specific needs over the phone and when I told her that we already discussed it in depth on that call, Jan dismissed it with well, I talk to everyone on the phone. Well take notes then, because this was unprofessional Speaking of which, Jan started publicly addressing another clients account balance, during class time! Not only did class start late, but Jan provided a 20 minute lecture on her thoughts and opinions on several dog related topics, but not training. After 35 minutes of class time, right as we began a lesson in heel, I walked out. If Jan listened on the phone call she would have known my dog already knows heel. My dog started barking from anxiety and Jan started trying to have me aggressively shake the leesh and say QUIET. This anxiety was the issue we wanted worked on. I am not sure what Jan would have done to train my dog (and I wasnt going to find out) but with the way Jan talked it souded like negative reinforcement training. Jan promised the moon and the stars on the phone call, sounded very understanding and empathetic, made me feel confident that we were on the right track. I had nothing but skepticism and dread standing in that class. Completely agree with the other 1-star reviews here, too.
We absolutely love live oak dog obedience! We started going when our dog was 3 months old and her behavior has drastically changed for the better! Any question that we have Jan always gives us some options as to how we can address the problem. She is so kind and knowledgable. We love how basically all of the training and exercises is for your dogs safety. We would and do recommend Live Oak Dog Obedience to anyone and everyone!
Jan and Live Oak Dog Obedience are amazing. Jan was instrumental in my successfully training our french bulldog as a puppy and young dog. Our french bulldog had to have a disk removed from his neck recently which means we will have a number of changes to our lives. Jan was incredibly kind to take the time talking me through many ways we can work with him during his rehabilitation period and how to develop modified behaviors to support some necessary lifestyle changes going forward. Jan is literally a life saver.
I just want all of you to know what a special person Jan is. I have taken 3 dogs to her and she has done wonders. My dog that I am working with now, was afraid of children, shy and is a Rottweiler. I was so excited to show Jan my new puppy and all she would say is do you want to know the truth or would you like me to tell you what you want to hear. I was so excited as I loved my puppy that I said I want you to tell me the truth. Jan told me about his life in the pack before I got him, how he was feed and handled by the breeders. Jan let me know if I wanted to work hard, she would be able to correct this behavior. Since, I just lost my other Rottweiler I was willing to do everything and anything. I started in the puppy class and just kept going to the advance. My Rottweiler deserved me to give him every opportunity to be the dog I needed. I know when we get dogs we need to do everything possible to give them the quality of life they deserve. I am so grateful for Jan and her experience, to give me a wonderful dog. First she trained me and then worked on my dog. If anyone has a dog that needs that opportunity, Jan is your trainer as she thinks as a dog thinks. My dog adores her and her training. I will keep going as a my dog is hooked on Jan and her classes.
Jan is AMAZING. We have made so much progress with our pup and are so grateful we came across live oak!
I think I left a five-star review before, but I could leave one after every lesson. Just went through e-collar training and cant believe how thorough and easy to understand Jan is. If you havent chosen a dog trainer yet you have to go to one of her classes. I dont think youll look for anyone else
Jan is fantastic to work with. She is so patient and explains everything so thoroughly. You know she loves what she does. I am excited to keep working with her.
I called alot of trainers, Jan was the most experienced, best facilities (in & outdoor) offering an assortment of diff classes that wasnt overwhelming, for all ages & training levels. I live 1.5+ hrs away, there were trainers that were closer. I chose Jan bc I believe shes the best overall. My dog is fully e-collar trained. We hike/climb remote mountains. I use a mile range locater beacon & Mushing/Pulling Harness for scaling steep incline. With a trained dog, you can do awesome stuff! Thank you Jan!!!
Great trainer, my dog and I both learned a lot from these classes, would recommend for sure.
Jan ans her dog are absolutely wonderful. I love all her classes. Recall training is solid.
I found Jan when looking for a trainer via online for my dog. Jan had the highest rating as a trainer and no wonder why. Not only that she was very quick in responding to my phone call but she took a lot of time in answering all my questions before I booked my first appointment. I am so glad I did! This lady knows her job and she is very thorough in her training. She is wonderful trainer who takes time in explaining everything and makes sure that every dog parent and dog leaves the class with clear understanding of what was taught in the class. Jan addresses every issue you may have with your dog. After only the very first class I saw big improvement in my dogs obedience. And that went for every class we went to after that. Thank you Jan for all you do! We love you :)
Jan is an amazing trainer! Highly recommend her classes. She s the only trainer I ll go to to help train the Canine Companion dogs I raise.
Jan is amazing with helping us train our dog. She noticed behavior that we never thought about correcting
Jan is amazing. She has such natural instincts with dogs. My dog is a very strong young lab and I thought Id always be dragged and jumped on. But even after the first lesson he walked out like a gentleman and Jan gave me some great pointers and direction to take him. Needless to say I highly recommend live Oak dog obedience.
We couldnt recommend Jan enough! She took the time to answer every question we had before ever signing up for classes. Now that we are in classes, we have seen a night and day difference in our dogs behavior. She gives you all of the tools / knowledge you need to be successful in your dog training and will modify the training based on your personal needs as well as your dogs personality / problems. I truly feel like she cares more about the well being of your dog and your relationship with them rather than the money involved. I wish every dog and owner had to go through these courses!
Wonderful instruction...kind, respectful & blunt. Every dog regardless of age will benefit
She uses fear training. She does not use treats, and teaches you to push your dog to the ground and use prong collars. Dogs only learn to fear their owners this way. I only attended a few classes because I realized the training techniques were terrible and what majority of trainers do not recommend. Not to mention, she would say factually incorrect things about dogs and their anatomy during the sessions, things that you can simply look up and be proved wrong. So if she doesn t even know basics about dogs, I certainly don t trust her training them. It also made my dog incredibly unhappy and act far worse than before. Since taking on the opposite techniques than the ones she teaches, my dog has gotten much better. I never finished the classes so I asked for a refund which she would not give me. She told me to sell the rest of my paid classes on KSL, but I cannot in good conscience send someone else her way.
Lots of classes offered. I particularly like the agility classes.
I have 1 year old Bernese Mountain Dog puppy who was a complete menace on a leash and had terrible manners. After one class with Jan he completely stopped pulling on his leash. We ve been to a few classes now and he is a completely different dog! Jan is amazing and worth every penny
Live Oak Obedience is fantastic! It has been a game changer for us. We have also enjoyed a number of the class offerings in addition to basic obedience. Rally is our favorite- but they are all GREAT!! Jan really knows what she is doing!!
We took our puppy to her classes a few years ago. They are all about dominance, if thats what you want in your dog, then great. As for me I want my dogs to be excited when I come home, excited about their treats, in general be happy pups. I dont want to be their Alpha and have them basically ignore me just because thats what they do in the wild.
Owner Jan Perkins has the best methods Ive ever been taught for working with a dog. She teaches humans to be firm yet loving with their dogs. Everything makes sense (and Jan also helped me see how other training methods I was using simply do not work), and she is patient and answers all the questions! My standard poodle puppy and I got almost to the end of intermediate training. I plan to come back for more classes when my schedule is a bit more flexible. Meanwhile, we keep working and practicing. None better than Live Oak!
Taking our dog to Jans was the best thing we could have ever done! It has truly been life-changing. We started taking our dog to Live Oak Dog Obedience shortly after my husband had ACL surgery. We wanted to be able to walk our dog without having her pull while he was recovering. We have now been taking my dog to Jans for more than a year! Our dog LOVES going and gets SO excited anytime she hears Jans name- she know where she is going and looks forward to it. Because we have gone to Live Oak Dog Obedience, not only does our dog walk politely on a leash, but we also can take her any where and know that she will behave with manners. We have so much fun working on things at home, going on hikes, taking her into dog-friendly stores and restaurants and including her in all of our family activities. The training has not only given our dog the best life possible but also continues to pay off as we have grown our family. This weekend I was able to sit on a bench on a busy trail and nurse my 6 week old baby while my dog stayed obediently by my side even as bikers, pedestrians, and other dogs passed by. That alone has made our training so worth it and we are SO grateful.
Lots of great tips and insights were learned bringing my 2 Standard Poodles here.
If you are looking for dog training look no further! I couldn t recommend this place more. I had never raised a dog before and Jan taught me so much. And her pricing is incredible. 10/10
Jan Perkins is hands down my favorite dog trainer. She makes her classes to fun and logical. My dogs get so excited to go to her classes with me. I recommend her to all my families that buy a dog from me. Jan truly cares about you and your dogs relationship. She makes her classes super accessible offering them at all times of the day. Plus she offers one on one trainings as needed. She is my go to when I have any questions about my dog or puppies. I trust her completely. Photo is the rattlesnake class she offered.
I worked with Jan to train my hyperactive GSP, Sammie. We worked from basic obedience, to scent training, all the way to e-collar training. Last, there is just no replacement for in person training in a group. You can train your dog indoors or in familiar places all you want, but walk one street down the block and it can completely change the game. Jan will work with you to show you the techniques to communicate and train with your dog successfully.
Jan is an excellent trainer who is knowledgeable in her work and provided us with the right tools for training. Her classes are informative and extremely helpful for training all levels and ages of dogs! We highly recommend her!
I m so glad we discovered Live Oak Obedience! We ve taken our puppy here for a few obedience classes, and I feel so much more confident with the training and developing of our newest addition to our family. The trainer is so good with our puppy and makes sure that I am comfortable with all of the training techniques she s shown us. I love that it s not just obedience classes offered but there are different types of classes for our puppy to attend too!
Jan is the BEST! Such a great teacher and so good at what she does! I would highly recommend her!
I started my journey with Jan at Live Oak Dog Obedience in 2016 with my first dog, Jessie, a four-year-old blue tick coonhound mix. As a novice in dog training, I was seeking a reliable hiking companion in Jessie. Under Jans guidance, Jessie transformed into an excellent hiking partner, even accompanying me on backpacking trips. Tragically, we lost Jessie to immune-mediated hemolytic anemia a year later, which was a profound loss. In my journey to heal, I fostered Saphira, (Saphy for short) a seven-year-old German Shepherd. With some initial hesitation, I sought Jans training expertise once more. What began as a temporary fostering soon blossomed into a deep, permanent bond, leading us to adopt Saphy. However, I didnt fully appreciate the importance of continuous training at the time. Saphys protective instincts gradually manifested as aggressive behaviors, presenting a significant learning curve for me as an owner. Despite these challenges, my love for her was fierce, and the gratitude I hold for her presence in my life is immeasurable. My experience with Saphy ultimately ignited my passion for the German Shepherd breed, a breed I now can t imagine my life without. When Hiro, a vibrant one-year-old long-haired German Shepherd, joined our family, I was determined not to make the same mistakes I d made with Saphy. Hiro s energy was boundless, and he had a strong prey drive towards our new kitten, Minka. Jans expertise became crucial in managing Hiros behaviors. She helped us navigate his tendency to chase Minka and his aggression towards other dogs and people during walks. Jan s training methods are not just about commands but helping you understand and think like dogs do. Dogs aren t human, so treating them as such doesnt work. The transformation under Jans training was remarkable. Within a month, Hiro learned to coexist peacefully with our cat and showed significant improvement in his behavior during hikes and on walks. Jans training goes beyond basic obedience; its about teaching them manners. Not only for their safety and well-being, but for your sanity and helping you to enjoy your life with your dog to the fullest, and strengthening your bond with them through the entire process. Jans approach to training is dynamic, engaging, and tailored to each dogs needs. Hiros progress is a testament to her methods. Ive come to realize that dog training is an ongoing journey, not a destination. Thanks to Jan, we now enjoy a harmonious life with a well-mannered, sociable, and safe dog. If we ve come this far in such a short amount of time, I can t wait to see what the next few months and years bring. As Hiro progresses, we will still be attending classes on a regular basis, whether that s monthly or every 6 weeks, not only to reinforce what we ve learned and learn new things, but to help us stay consistent. It s easy to get comfortable and fall into the trap of thinking once you ve reached a certain point, you don t need to practice or work on training anymore. Nothing could be further from the truth. Trust me, I had to learn some hard lessons thinking that way. I wholeheartedly recommend Jan to anyone aiming to deeply enrich their life alongside their dog. Imagine a reality where concerns like your dog barking at visitors, jumping on guests, or unpredictably darting out the door are things of the past. With Jans guidance, everyday challenges with your dog are transformed into opportunities for bonding and growth, enriching the mutual understanding and respect between you and your pet. Her expertise goes beyond mere training; it redefines your daily experiences, seamlessly turning routine struggles into harmonious and rewarding moments, enhancing the quality of life for both you and your dog.
So grateful I was referred to Jan! I have been to a few classes so far and I have learned sooo much! Our new puppy is doing so well because we have been shown and taught, easy, effective ways to manage and train him. She is extremely good at what she does and you can tell she has a lot of experience. She takes time with you to answer all your ?s. She has also helped us with our 10 year old dog and his bad habits (wish I was referred to her 10years ago). I am so happy he has responded to what we have learned from Jan. I also read her book and love it, it makes so much sense and is super helpful!
jan has been so great and responsive! she helped our dog with aggression and anxiety turn into a perfect happy dog who can now go on walks off leash and be friendly with other dogs!!
Weve signed up for the 8 classes option that Jan offers and have attended 2 in person puppy obedience classes and 1 zoom behavior modification class so far. The difference in our 3 month old pomsky is night and day! We were getting very frustrated with him (and him with us) and after 1 puppy class with Jan we felt equipped to better understand and help him be successful and obedient. She helps you understand dog language and behavior in a way that really sticks with you. Now he is already sitting, staying, leaving it and leash walking with manners and is quickly picking up new things. Jan is so helpful and takes time to customize her sessions depending on the needs of everyone and gives focused attention to each puppy. We are so happy we found her and her pricing is an absolute steal for the quality and results. Highly recommend her!
Jan always always answers all questions you might have, also she explains in detail how to work with your dog. She is awesome.
I decided to get help with my (Belgian Malinois) Hella s training I looked at a lot of trainers in the valley. I chose live oaks because of reviews. I m very glad I did .Jan is very patient and knowledgeable about dog behavior (and human) thank you jan
Jan is really knowledgeable on what she does. When she said she thinks like a dog I knew that I was in the right place. Having puppies is a big responsibility and it is ones job an owner to connect with your puppy in a way that you and your pup can find a mutual language rooted from love and respect. When it comes to bigger more aggressive breeds like my dogs (Akita and Russian Ovcharka) I was looking to make sure that they dont get out of control. With her classes I am able to gain insight and techniques in training my pups and feel more confident in raising these breeds. Thank you Jan!
This is Belinda Roskelley, both Von and I think Jan is fantastic at what she does! She is a great person!
I love this place, great trainer, explains everything so well. I wanted to teach my dog leash manners and my dog got the hang of what I was wanting to communicate with her after two sessions at Live Oak.
Jan is wonderful, and such a good trainer of handlers and dogs.
I love Live Oak Obedience! Jans approach is straightforward, loving, but firm. No gimmicks, just proven techniques. She offers many types of classes for us humans to learn how to channel canine energy into the go-anywhere dog we all want.
Jan s dog training exactly what I was hoping for. She gives detailed instructions and reasons why. It is not dog treat training so your dog learns to listen to you. She has training tools available that she recommends and then shows you how to use them. If your dog has problems, Jan teaches you how to correct your dog. You will have a better and more respectful dog and a happy home after attending a few classes.
Jan is very professional, experienced, knowledgeable and caring -- Particularly good at personalized attention & recommendations
We call Jan (Live Oak Dog Obedience - Utah) our Dog Whisperer. Fantastic is the only word to describe our experience with her. We had a small dog with anxiety issues with unfamiliar people, walking, and new places/experiences, along with a new 1 year-old rescue pup that, in the beginning, had no boundaries. Jan has helped us resolve MANY behavioral issues with both dogs. They are much more balanced and happy now, and we couldnt be more pleased with the results. We HIGHLY recommend her to anyone who wants a better understanding of how their dogs think and how to control them. Give her a try! Her knowledge and experience will not disappoint!
I take #NikoTheHusky to Live Oak and I am so impressed at how well were doing! Its not really training if the dog as it is training if me but Im getting it! Lol
Amazing!!!! My puppy went from pulling on a leash ever second of every day to actually well behaved I had to put in work with him but Jane helped me ever step of the way!!!! We still have a long way but I know well get their!
This place is the real deal. We ve used a few trainers and have experienced the best success with Jan! She really understands dogs individually and what they need (and mostly what we need to do as owners) for our pups to be successful.
Tom and I found out about Jan and was truly amazed at how much she taught us how to train our 65 lb Golden Doodle, Sadie. It made such a difference. Today, we use the chain collar, and we were trained by Jay to use the E-collar. Sadie learned how to leave it. When we go on walks, we use the chain collar, and she stays on my left side. This year, when my daughter-in-law, Esther, wanted a trainer for her puppy, I just had to locate Jan and the Live Oak Dog Obedience. Esther texted me after the training and replied how happy she is with Jan.
Jan has all the right skills for our dog training needs. She answered all our questions and enabled us to raise a near perfect puppy. Buy the bundle package.
Jan is experienced, wise and compassionate. I love that she trains me more than my dogs. She never touches my dogs and encourages me to do what I am comfortable with, but she is clear with her reasoning for why she is recommending a certain action. The variety of classes she offers keeps us coming back for more skills and super fun bonding time.
Jan is amazing and definitely know what she s talking about. I ve only been there 2 times already and I ve learnt so much. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who needs training for their dogs.
We paid $265 for 8 classes and a small collar using Venmo. We were only able to attend 2 classes due to a change in circumstances that prevented us from attending the other 6 classes. We emailed and let her know beforehand so she would have time to fill our spot if needed. When we asked for a refund for the 6 classes we would not be able to attend, Jan told us she didnt have record of our payment and would not refund any of our money. I have a record in my Venmo history showing her first and last name and her picture, so I know she received my payment. I think it is unprofessional to keep the money for classes we werent able to attend.
I can t express how wonderful Jan s classes have been both for myself and my Collie. Jan is an extraordinary trainer and so insightful. She s a great problem solver and listener and the result is a well mannered dog and an educated owner.
We have just started attending classes at Live Oak with our shepherd puppy, and Live Oaks methods resonate with how we wish to train/connect with our pup. They use praise and gentle corrections rather than treats, which was the original reason we chose Live Oak. I appreciate the structure of the classes - some puppies catch on faster than others, so Jan determines when each client/puppy graduates, rather than forcing every client to go through a certain program that lasts 4-6 weeks. Our time is VERY well spent at Live Oak. Im so glad I found them!
We love Jan and her training school. I especially like the way she takes the time to explain what she is doing and why. She is very patient. It is not just the dog that gets trained, but the owner as well. You cant go wrong with LIve Oak Dog Obedience!
My dog and I went to a dog park. I got to talking with another owner who asked where my dog was trained. I said Live Oak and she responded, I knew it! All the best trained dogs come from Jan. Shes a dog whisperer. Well shes a dog owner whisperer. I cant recommend Live Oak enough.
I have enjoyed working bringing my pup to Live Oak Dog Obedience Utah. Jan has helped train me on the best way to train my pup.
We love working with Jan at Live Oak. Our pupper was ill-mannered before we took him to his first Live Oak class and is now dont do much better. He actually listens to us! She offeres a variety of classes to help your pupper learn and behave better. She also offers different tools for purchase suck as collars, e-collars, and leashes to help you train your doggo. I highly recommend her methods. If youre looking to help your fur baby, this is the place.
Jan has been our lifesaver! She is a great trainer and she teaches your dog to listen and obey because they respect you not because you have a treat. We thought our dog would never be able to be off leash but thanks to Jan we are starting his off leash training. Thanks Jan for your awesome help!
The setting of the classes is great for any time of the year. The variety of classes are a plus. The expertise and personality of the trainer are a good combination. Our 8 month old puppy was getting out of control and just a few classes with Jan have helped us regain some of it. We are sure that as we continue with the classes, our puppy will be a very well behaved companion.
As a first-time dog owner, I felt so lost until I started working with Jan at Live Oak Dog Obedience! She is so knowledgeable and does such a great job training us humans to know how to work with our dogs effectively. I continually learn new things from her and have seen a huge improvement in my dogs obedience and behavior since working with Jan! I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to improve their doggy/human relationship!
Jans knowledge and insight about dogs is mind boggling. Jan has PRACTICAL solutions to every challenge presented to her. When I started training with her, I was being sued by my city for a dog attack, in addition to very steep medical bills for injuries my dog inflicted. If you think dog training is expensive, talk to me about the cost of citations, vet bills, HOA complaint fines and replacing items ruined by my dog. My dog came dangerously close to being removed from me against my will and most likely euthanized. Jan was our last hope. Other cookie cutter trainings werent successful. Jan explains the reasoning behind everything she does and teaches. Thanks to her insight, my dogs behavior issues make so much sense. Things are finally beginning to click! Just by implementing Jans customized, seemingly minor suggestions, there has been a quick, huge pay off. I cant believe its the same dog! Jan is passionate about animals and that shows through in every lesson. Jans tutelage has empowered us and given us the hope we so badly needed. Both mine and my dogs life has improved exponentially since training with her where other training had failed. I cannot praise her services enough.
I inquired about training my service dog. I felt talked down to and they told me theres not a garuntee that theyll certify her afterwards, even though service dogs require no certification in ADA law. Didnt know the difference between public access and Service training. I didnt go past the first phone calls I dont know her actual training style, beside theres no treats which I dont agree with. She may be great with normal dog training but would not recommend for service dog training
I adopted a dog in January and started training with Jan not long after. Jan is very attentive and has been able to answer all of my questions, as well as all questions other people in class have. She is friendly and will help you to understand the ways your dog thinks and learns. She also has the best value for classes that Ive been able to find. Jans classes are definitely worth the money and you will walk out of class each day having learned something new.
Best dog trainer, Jan speaks dog fluently!
Jan is the most amazing trainer! My newfoundland puppy has become much more behaved and walks amazing on a leash. We are currently in the beginner class and so close to graduating and moving onto the intermediate class. I cant wait to continue our classes and watch my puppy progress. Her dogs are the perfect example of how great of a trainer she is. I have confidence that if i continue with her classes my dog will be just as amazing and obedient as hers are! I highly recommend Live Oak Dog Obedience!
Jan taught me so much about how to train my dog. She wasn t training my dog, she taught me how to train my dog. I now feel much more confident on how to handle my dog in so many situations.
I have been with my dogs training here forover 5 years. Great trainer , new facility, lots of options to choose from for classes. Try this training at least once. It maybe what your dog needs!
Jan is an excellent trainer. Im very thankful I was told about this place.
My husband and I love Jan and the way she trains. We have a 3 month black lab who is an absolute maniac and she is patient with him and with us. We have taken him to 3 puppy classes and he s been MUCH better and has learned so quickly. We will continue taking him to Jan because I know she s got the skills to help us through problems and concerns!
I absolutely love training with Jan at Live Oak Dog Obedience. I would give 10 stars if I could. She is so knowledgeable and has helped me with all the problems my puppy was having. I like how there are many classes to sign up for, and different ways to help train my dog. The changes in the behavior of my dog have been unbelievable. You can tell how much Jan cares about dogs and that they are trained correctly. If you are willing to put in the work and to be consistent in training, you will see amazing changes in your dog by working with Jan.
Best dog trainer around! Youll definitely get your moneys worth.
My wife and I added a bull mastiff puppy to our family. We know he is going to be a big boy, so we contacted Jan. She said she would love to work with us. We got the recommendation from my wifes parents who trained their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Hes a good boy. We have taken two classes and already there is a noticable difference in our puppys behavior and obedience. She gives us homework to practice between sessions, which is great. We are really proud of our progress. Our puppy is learning a lot and so are we. Jan is knowledgeable, friendly, professional and willing to answer all of our questions. We are excited to continue our puppy training journey with her!
Jan is so great! Teaches the basics (in the beginning classes) AND address specific problems youre having with your dog. There are many levels and different types of classes too, including scent, rally, and agility. She has a very kind but direct approach to teaching and helps you understand how your dog views your actions so you can continue to teach your dog long after classes. I love having homework to work on after each class. She was highly recommend to me in Sandy, then I found out shed moved to bluffdale but its worth the drive. Classes are on the cheaper end for training but its really effective so you get a good bang for your buck!
I have been so impressed with Jans philosophy, teaching and training of my dog. I thought I was going to be the mom with the naughty kid in class on my first day but after some instruction Watson was successful in completing his class assignments almost immediately. Everything she taught me made so much sense to both Watson and me. When I took my dog to a different trainer as a puppy, he was rewarded with treats. Guess what, if I didnt have a treat in my hand, he was smart enough not to listen to me. Jan taught me to train with praise and he listens and cant wait to be told good dog and get his belly rubs as a reward. I would recommend Jan at Live Oak Dog Obedience to anyone with any age dog. I wish I had gone to her first thing when my Watson was a puppy.
Jan is an incredible trainer! We went from beginner all the way through to advanced training. Bailey is such an incredible dog and so enjoyable with thanks to Jan for all her help, knowledge and training. We get comments all the time about how well behaved our dog is. I can t say enough great things about Jan and Live Oak training.
We LOVE Jan! We took our puppy here a few years ago, and just started to bring him back. I notice so much progress just after one session. I recommend her to anyone and everyone!
Jan is amazing with dogs! She always has great tips and training techniques I can use with our pup. I highly recommend her!
Jan is an excellent trainer and teacher who really knows her stuff. I have two Weimaraners, one of which does not like to be told what to do. Jan has taught me the skills to train both dogs to be well behaved, including the strong-willed one. I highly recommend her classes and training methods.
Jan is a great puppy/dog trainer. Reasonable pricing for classes. We learned alot about training our puppy Hachi thru her classes
Im very impressed with how our training is going so far for both our dogs. Our first dog came from the shelter. Hes about 16 months old now and I was worried we were starting too late to be successful. He had aggression issues, everything scared him, and knew very few commands. Jan showed us how to overcome that without being cruel and now he can be around strangers in our home and outside the house without any fears that something bad would happen. Our second dog is a puppy and she is taking to the training so well! We still have plenty of work to do but I can see the progress and the dogs both seem content. This is a good fit for our family.
In my 1st begging class I learned so much and Jan was so good at explaining the commands and what we need to do. I am very excited for the next class. Jan is very patient and excellent with all the dogs. I am very happy so far with the training.
Jan is a wonderful and experienced trainer. She is patient and kind, and very knowledgeable of all breeds of dogs. We have been so happy with our experience so far.
Jan is so patient and knowledgeable. She really cares about the people in her classes, which helps us to train our dogs to be well-mannered. I love that she focuses on helping the dogs do work because they want to please their owner, not because they want a treat. Our dog Fitz often wanted to run off when we took him outside and jumped on kids (just to name a couple things) and after attending several classes, he now obeys our commands to come and be obedient around other people! Truly life changing to have a dog who learns to listen at such a young age! The only downside is that she is so busy bc she is in high demand! We love Live Oak!
I rescued my heeler from a local shelter and knew immediately shed need training. She was what Jan described as a wild dog - which, she was. She lived with a pack of other wild dogs in New Mexico and knew little to nothing about humans. She knew nothing about structure and soon developed separation anxiety when Id leave. I started searching around for people/places to help train my new addition. I emailed around, talked to people on the phone, and soon realized they werent the places for me. Most places wanted in home visits or to simply take my dog for a few weeks until she was trained. I didnt like any of that. When I stumbled over Jan and her classes, I knew I found the perfect one. She immediately gave me reassurance that my dog could be trained, itd just be a process. I love how her classes are in groups so your dog learns to listen to you and your commands even with other dogs and people around. The agility class that she offers is also amazing, especially if you have a timid dog who is afraid of just about everything. Id recommend Jan without a second thought - she is WELL worth the money you spend.
Our very large and strong dog literally dragged me from the car in to Jan s class. (Not that he intended to get to training, just that he drags me frequently.). He walked out of that class on heal, and now sits on command. We had some advantages: -Jan is a fabulous teacher who gets to the heart of things quickly. -Buddy has training before he came to our family; he just knew we were novices at keeping order. -Jan was able to manage the group of people and dogs that was in the training session in a way that allowed us to learn from each other in a very productive and efficient way. -Jan correctly pointed out that the humans needed training as much or more than the dogs. Training with Jan was a great experience. I will be continuing with future classes.
Jan is excellent. We have taken two pitbulls to her and they are both so well behaved. We often take them out with us during the warm weather when we eat at outside restaurants and we always get complimented on how well behaved and friendly they are. There are also different training options that Jan will work with. One of our dogs prefers the halty as a training device, while the other one prefers the prong collar, and Jan is willing to work with whatever works best for the dog and owner.
In just one lesson, Jan taught me how to prevent my strong puppy from pulling on the leash. My dog is now a pleasure to walk. Jan is very knowledgeable about dogs, their behaviors and how to train them so they are good citizens.
Jan is great. Her classes are not just about training your dog. They are also to help you understand your dog and the responsibility you have to them and to the community. Very highly recommend her classes.
Jan is AMAZING! We bought a Siberian Husky puppy understanding that they are a little more stubborn and alpha centered dogs. Yeah, we didn t fully grasp what we were getting ourselves into. Within 48 hours of having him we were already at our wits end with how crazy and disobedient he was. My friend recommended Jan and her classes. Within three courses (three weeks) we are looking at a completely different dog. Lando (his name) listens, he obeys, he stays calm and sits/lays around other dogs and people. Over all he is a completely changed pup. He still has a bunch to learn but he has been a joy to have in our house, on walks/runs and everything in between since we started with Jan. Jan is so nice, and is a very honest and truthful trainer. Every dog that has been in the classes we ve attended have completely different personalities and issues. Jan knows exactly how to help each one. My favorite part of the class is when she asked each owner if they have any questions or concerns from the previous week at home. I learn a ton just listening to her answers for each owners problems. She is amazing and has completely changed my dog owning experience! Thanks Jan!
Weve been working with Jan for these last 3 weeks and they have been awesome! Its been great to get expert help with our new puppy and to have class where we can share and learn from other puppy owners. Weve only attended her puppy class so far, but we hope to continue to work with Jan as our puppy continues to grow with the different classes she offers for all ages and abilities.
We spent an hour and a half with Jan and our Olde English Bulldogge puppy. In that short amount of time we have a completely different puppy. No more temper tantrums and she s a complete joy to walk. She was our good girl now she s an super wonderful good girl. Can t sing Jan s praises enough!!
Weve been working with Jan at Live Oak for six months now, and we are extremely appreciative of her approach to training us in training our dogs. The fees are comparable/competitive, and the service that we get for those fees is excellent. I would and do recommend Live Oak to all of my friends with dogs or who are new to dog training!
Weve taken classes from Jan over a period of 15 years, we always get compliments of how well behaved our dogs are. She is kind and supportive of both the pets and the owners, me and my husband wouldnt go anywhere else.
I am very impressed with Live Oak Dog Obedience. Jan is very professional and responds to email in a timely fashion. The training that my puppy and family has received has helped immensely. I would recommend Jan and Live Oak dog training.
Jan is Amazing! She is very passionate about the dogs she works with. I could not be happier with the results we have gotten. Thank you for the expertise and wisdom you have given us. Highly recommended
These guys know their stuff! Very impressed
I called Jan, trainer at Live Oaks, in a panic because my 1 year old shepherd mix snapped at a stranger at a friends property. My partner and I, have been concerned because his level of aggression has grown since we adopted him at 8 months. Jan was helpful, efficient and empathetic to our situation. We saw immediate improvements in our walking and training, enough so, that I look forward to scheduling a training with Live Oaks soon.
Jan is amazing!!!! I will never train my dogs with anyone else. Her class package is a great value and the quality is excellent! She holds her classes at local parks to encourage training with distractions; she also holds classes at her barn and at community centers. I have never had a dog trained as well as ours is now. Our puppy was scared of people and on the verge of aggression because he wasn t an alpha in his litter. Jan worked with us to completely change his fear and build his confidence! Now our 1 year old dog is friendly, listens very well to commands and is vey confident! She wants to help owners learn as much as the dogs. She has taught my husband and I so much and we have had pets all our lives. Her daughter teaches agility classes which is a great way to give confidence to a shy dog; our dog loved it and it made him the confident dog he is today. Jan also does scent training which was a fun and very useful training for our dog. She truly cares about the dogs and will work with you and your dog so that you work together. Our dog loves going to classes!
Jan was amazing! She was able to get our dog to respond to commands in minutes. Her knowledge of dogs is incredible. Would highly recommend Jan and would definitely use her again!
I highly recommend Jan Perkins at Live Oak Dog Obedience! She does private and group training. Reasonably priced and highly effective! I have seen great improvement after just two classes!
Jan was very helpful. She really went above and beyond answering my questions about my dog.
Jan worked with me and a rescue blue heeler mix I adopted. I ve trained dogs before on my own and worked with horses but needed extra help this time. I was blown away by Jan and her knowledge and experience. She IS the dog whisperer! I have confidently referred her to many friends too because she is really so brilliant with not just dogs, but training their owners too hahah. She s so great in bringing calm and encouragement to what could be a stressful situation. I will continue to Seek her help with current and future dogs we own. She just can t be beat in quality and effectiveness.
Its a wonderful feeling when people tell me that Milo behaves so well. I have so much pride in my dog and it is all because of the training we did with Jan..Every dog owner should take some classes to help their dog be their best self.
We have been amazed with the knowledge and experience this training has offered us. We are constantly learning new commands or tricks with our dog. I would highly recommend training with Live Oak and will definitely bring future dogs. We have one well behaved, loved and respected dog because of the work and attention that Jan and Kelsey has given our sweet pup!
Jan is very knowledgeable about dogs and dog training. She takes the time to talk with each of her clients at the beginning and end of every session to see if they have any specific questions or concerns with regards to their specific dog and training. It would be nice if she offered a specific class for your first class that way you do not feel like you are wasting others time with all your questions (that would be my only suggestion). It has been a great help with our puppy and we look forward to continuing to work with Jan for additional training to ensure our puppy becomes a well behaved dog.
Jans classes with Like Oak Dog Obedience have changed our familys quality of life ten fold. We have two shelter adopted dogs and have always dealt with pulling, dog aggression, fence chasing and so much more. Jans classes helped train US to train and bond with our dogs so much smoother and faster than any other course Ive tried. Her flexible style coaches you through beginner to intermediate courses based on where your dog is actually at and how fast they learn. We could not be more of a tribe now after taking lessons with Jan! She will work with you on any issue or behavior and her new teaching barn is an incredible learning space!
Was so helpful for our understanding and for our greyhound puppy!
Wouldn t take our dog (or future dogs) anywhere else. She genuinely understands how dogs think and the best and most effective ways to help your dog become well mannered by helping you stop doing things that encourage bad behavior. Will continue to commute to get the best training along the Wasatch Front!
We had our sweet pitfall puppy in Jans classes for 8 weeks and we learned a lot about interactions between our dogs and us. Koda our pitta is such a loving well behaved dog because of what we learned and our chihuahua is better behaved also. Thanks Jan
Jan Perkins is a true dog whisperer! I came to her on recommendation from one of my neighbors and I am SO glad I did. I recently rescued a third dog from Rescue Rovers and she has a bit of aggression towards men and new people in general. We started with the beginner novice class and from the first class I knew Roux (my dog) was going to do well! In a short amount of time Roux has gone from beginner to almost being graduated to the advanced class! Im so pleased with Jan and everything she has taught Roux and I. I will never take my dogs to another dog trainer again. Live Oak training for life!
Jan is phenomenal! Her knowledge of dogs and how to train them to be a well behaved part of the family is amazing! I recommend her to anyone who wants an obedient dog!
I have been going to Live Oak Dog Obedience training for years now. With 3 separate dogs and Jan is the best. I absolutely lover her passion for people and their dogs. She is amazing at training people on how to work with their dogs and train them in a humane manner that works for both people and dogs. I hope to continue returning to her every time I bring another fur baby into my family!
Jan is AMAZING. We just started bringing our little border collie/blue heeler puppy to class and it has helped US so much. Jan doesn t just focus on forcing your dog to behave, she focuses on teaching your dog to choose to listen to you. It has helped us so much with our little guy and we will continue training with her for a long time. She knows her stuff, she knows her breeds, and she knows how to teach in a way that is uplifting and confidence inducing. Every tip she has given us, if followed correctly, has worked every time. We love Jan and are SO excited we found her. I m grateful for the other google reviews that helped us choose to come here.
I have 4 Pomeranians. My first one crossed the Rainbow Bridge July 2017. Earlier in the year I started to have alpha issues between the 2. I had never had this issue before, as they both are/ were pure love. My Dreamers health was drastically declining, and I feel that is why MiMi started to try attack her. I talked to my vet, who referred me to Jan Live Oaks Best thing I did was when I called her. She taught me how to take back me being alpha, and to stop this very aggressive behavior. Helping give Dreamer her last few months peacefulI. I call her anytime I have behavioral issues, and within very short minutes, she has helped me immediately!!! I refer all my friends to her. She is truly the best in her profession.
This lady drives very dangerously. Myself and some other cars were letting someone turn right into rush hour traffic when the light ahead was red and a truck went barreling around me and partially blocked that car in. The truck had the logo and phone number for this company. Then she drove down the road with her eyes on her phone obviously not paying attention to traffic. Very scary.
This was an amazing class, teacher was very knowledgeable !! My dog after 1 class cha.hed her behavior.. The teacher taught me how to handle and why my dog did the things she did. Excellent class
Ive never been more impressed with how well I was treated and trained as a person, and how quickly my relationship was improved with my amazing dog. Thank you so much!
Jan is an excellent dog trainer. I highly recommend taking her classes. I also recommend taking the Snake Avoidance Class with Web Parton if you hike or live here near our mountains. My Weimaraner & I took the class last summer when my pup was only a year old. Last week he strongly signaled to me a snake I didnt see. He leaped & pulled me away from it at Hidden Valley Park! Hes nearly two & hasnt seen a snake since Webs class but wanted nothing to do with it!
Jan has literally saved my dogs life! Martin Luther King Day, January 21st, was super snowy. We woke up to a blanket of white covering everything in sight. It was one of those days where you dont leave the house unless you absolutely have to. The roads were horrible! There were easily 4 inches of snow on the road that had be packed down by the few cars that had driven on it. The roads were almost empty and everyone who was out was driving VERY slow. My new place is right on one of the busiest streets in Sandy. Through a series of horrible coincidences, Miss Muffet slipped out of the house and through the garage and right into 94th South. I chased after her screaming and watched as she was rolled underneath a large truck (it will be something I will see until the day I die). I ran out and laid in the road with her, comforting her, until people could gather us up and help us get Muffet to the vet. I will share reviews on the Hillside Veterinary Clinic site as well as the Advance Veterinary Care site because they both worked tirelessly to save Muffet too. They were amazing and I simply am incapable of expressing my deep appreciation and love for everyone in those clinics. I literally emailed Jan from Hillside asking for her help in getting Muffet back on the straight and narrow. We devised a plan to get Muffet through her convalescence and back into puppy school. We started in the beginning/novice class again, but have since moved up to intermediate. Miss Muffet has also attended the e-collar class and Jan has come to my home for a private session. At this point, Miss Muffet can walk properly on leash, heel, sit, stay, lay down, stand up, come, and front. This is AMAZING, especially knowing that three months ago Muffet was pretty much out of control. I am hopeful we will be able to take Muffet to the advanced class in the coming weeks. Muffet will be attending the rattlesnake avoidance class in early June, which helps dogs understand snakes and act properly to ensure their and your safety. A week or so ago, I had Muffet at a park practicing her skills and a teenager on a skateboard was coming toward us. He was riding pretty aggressively and was coming up fast. Miss Muffet got really scared (can you blame her?) and was jumping and trying to run. I was able to contain Muffet and moved her away from the teen so I could soothe her. If I hadnt been taking Muffet to Jan there is no way I would have been able to maintain control. Remember how I live on a super busy street? Yeah, the day Muffet got out is not unique. It will not be the last time Muffet is able to get out of the house and move toward the busy street. Jan is helping me ensure I have control over Muffet and can keep her safe at all times. Also, Im not going to lie, its pretty cool to have a well behaved dog who inspires oohs and ahhs every time she listens and does what is being told. Thank you Jan!!!
Live oak dog training is the absolute best, I cannot day enough good things! We had Jan come do some private training with our 8 week old puppy and I cannot believe everything she worked and taught me in that hour! We will for sure be life long customers and referring all of our dog owning friends!!! Thank you live oak!!!
Jan is extremely knowledgeable and a great trainer. Her methods have made a huge difference in my dogs behavior and relationships with my family and other dogs. Ive taken different dog obedience classes with other trainers in the past, and I find Jans methods to be so much more effective. I highly recommend if you have a dog with any kind of behaviors or just want to learn basic obedience.
We ve been to 3 or 4 sessions with Jan and our new puppy. We have never been dog owners before and are brand new to puppy ownership. Jan has been wonderful! The hour long puppy class has been so beneficial! Jan has also been available through email to answer any questions and give advice during the week in between sessions with her. Thank you for making our transition into puppy owners so much easier!
We have two German Shepherds with strong personalities. We have been going to Jan since they were puppies, and she has helped us tremendously. I love the manners that she has helped us teach them, and I love how affordable her classes are. She has always made herself available for any questions we have, and we recommend her to anyone we meet!
Working with Jan changed our naughty pup. If we hadn t decided to go to Live Oak Dog Obedience, I don t know how we would manage our little guy.
Such a positive experience in every way! I signed up for the 8 class package and am thankful I did. Jan and Kelsey are amazing. My very first class was tiring for both me and my dog, but so very worth it. We learned so much and I feel like I understand how to better communicate with my dog as training goes both ways. The commands he has learned are not tricks instead it is manners and behavior that makes me proud to take my dog in public. I researched multiple obedience companies and Jan is by far the best. She emphasizes the importance of owner training just as much as dog training. 10/10!! I look forward to continuing the training.
Jan is, no joke, a dog whisperer. I started going to training classes with my German Shorthair/English Pointer puppy when she was eight weeks old. In the last four years, I have recommended Jan to every dog owner I know. She teaches the owner how to train his or her dog so that the owner is in control, no treats required! Shes all about tough (but fair) love and uses dog psychology to let your dog know you are the boss. She is truly incredible. I will never go to another dog trainer! Highly recommend - for new dog owners, veteran pet owners, and everyone in between. Thanks, Jan!
Im not a fan of their teaching method. Prefer positive reinforcement.
Seriously super impressed! I love working with and learning from Jan. She has helped me with both of my dogs and continues to do so. I love her methods, techniques, love for dogs and her passion for helping people like me have a well behaved dog. Both my Dane and pit have seen HUGE progress. I have done private sessions, attended several of her classes and plan on continuing with her for as long as I have dogs. I called her in a panic, my new puppy wasn t being quiet and living in an apartment that can be a huge problem. She shifted her entire day around to come meet with me and help me solve the problem. That night my puppy was different. We since have worked with both dogs on multiple things. Her prices are absolutely amazing and she goes above and beyond to help you get it but also to make sure you are super comfortable! Thanks so much Jan!
Jan knows how to train dog and people. Took my childhood dog to her years ago and she did wonders with him. So when i got a puppy I knew I needed to bring him to her. Training is a lot of work and takes time, and I am no where near done training. But even at 6 months old I get told how well behaved my dog is from people who see us. They are amazed he is so young and well behaved.
She is amazing and truly loves and understand dogs.
We have only been to two classes with our puppy so far, but have seen immediate improvements in his behavior. He was a biter and overnight we have a new puppy, who listens to us and bites 99% less. We are excited to see the improvements hell continue to make.
I can t say enough good things about Jan at Live Oak Dog Obedience. I have a crazy Dalmatian that drove me to tears in class one day. Jan told me not to give up and assured me that with consistency and determination she will learn some manners. She was right. Ella is doing so much better. I rescued a dog a couple months ago and I took him immediately to Live Oak. He is learning very quickly. Jan always asks if we have any questions or concerns and will take the time to address every question. Thanks for all the help Jan! You rock!
Jan is amazing, I wish I had known about her sooner. She has helped me understand my dog better. Ive never experienced a trainer so knowledgeable and passionate!
We have gone to 3 out of 8 of our classes for our husky puppy and he does AMAZING!!! She was recommended to us by someone we ran into at Petco our first day with our dog and that person told us she is a dog whisperer and THEY WERE RIGHT!!! our first class our dog was so disobedient and the 2nd and 3rd classes he was a while new dog!!! Doing SOOO much better!!! I LOVE that Jan trains us the owners how to work with our dogs and how to fix issues we are having so that way our dog learns through us and respects us the owner!! I recommend Jans training to any and everyone!! Thanks Jan!!! YOURE THE BEST!!!!
I have a 7 month old german shepherd puppy, sweetest girl in the world, with the biggest loudest mouth for a tiny puppy! Well the first time we walked in to Jans class, Jan had to use a microphone to talk over my pup that would, at the time bark at every and any dog visible. Five minutes in class, she had my pup being a good girl and no longer barking at other dogs. Jan is a miracle worker! If you want a well behaved puppy and dont want to spend a million (Ive talked with people that spend around $100. for 1, yes thats one, class. And then they tell me my puppy is so well behaved and ask where I go) dollars, go see Jan! at Live Oak Obedience is what I tell them, and you, reader. Noah A. Peters
Jan is amazing. She really cares about seeing all the dogs and their owners succeed. My dog and I recently moved here and I was really needing more help in growing his confidence and responsiveness to me. He is blind and loves life; training with Jan is helping us have the skills so he can enjoy life to the fullest. Highly recommend.
Jan is a miracle worker! I have had several dogs, some of which have been therapy dogs. Her knowledge and skill has been so valuable in training my most recent rescue and therapy dog. She will be my new go to person for training my dogs! The success I have using her training keeps me coming back for more! Highly recommend!
Well thought out, well explained training. Our dogs were very spoiled. In just a couple of weeks they seem happier and better adjusted, and are learning manners. Its no different than teaching your children how to interact with other people, just using different methods, language and rationale because theyre dogs. Jan knows her stuff and is very conscious of the dogs well being. I recommend her very highly.
I love Live Oak Obedience. If you re interested in having a dog with manners and much more, then Live Oak Obedience is the place for you. Jan has a passion for dogs and she understands the human holding the leash. After all, it s really the human who needs the training! ,
Jan has been an invaluable teacher / educator in helping me become the best handler / owner I can be for my dog . She has endless knowledge and experience in the field of dog training . She is direct, yet very understanding and compassionate for every unique situation. It s clear the passion for what she does runs deep. It s been a joy learning from her .
Live Oak Dog Obedience is the BEST dog training business out there. They are truly focused on teaching long lasting skills for both the dog and the family! After having done much research for finding the right fit to train our puppy to become an emotional support dog, we knew that Jan was sincere and gifted to teach real dog obedience, not just make money. We are constantly getting compliments on our 18 month old pup, and people really wonder how we have such an obedient K9. Thank you, Live Oak Dog Obedience!
Jan has been so helpful with Ghost our heeler/ husky and his fear of strangers . Jan you are the best. Thank you!
The best dog training program in Utah!
Jan is awesome, though her program works only as well as you do. Practice what she teaches, and you will have a well-trained dog.
Jan is seriously the dog whisperer! She has been so patient and makes me feel so much more confident! She cares about our success and continues to tell us to not give up. So grateful to have her as our trainer!
Tje lady Jan Perkins she dogs it ia not qualified. She is a half late onall her classes talkes about personal stories. She never gets to the point. We.want our money back. Do not go to her classes. You will be stuck waiting for 1.2 hour before she lets you in then your dog is so stressed out. A RIP off. We want our our money back for waiting our time. The Pecks
Jan is an incredible instructor and person. Her training courses are efficient and easy to understand. She will move you up in class as she sees fit, and doesn t make you feel poorly if you and your dog need to stay another week to learn things well. Our dog improved so much with obedience when we went to her course. She came at 9:30 at night to help our friends search for their dogs. It was about 23 degrees outside and she and her dog were searching for 2 hours. She is such a kind, respectful, loving person who definitely goes out of her way to help you learn and grow with your pet.
Jan is amazing! Her classes are very well structured and easy to follow and helped out our dog so much. She is a great trainer and a great person she answered any questions we had about our dog. My husband and I loved bringing our dog there to train. Sadly our dog escaped and we were desperate for anything and we remembered that her dog is very well trained to track and find people or even other dogs. Since it was a week before Christmas we were a little hesitant to call her because she may be with family but we did and she came and helped us out for two hours and gave us great advice. Sadly there is a marsh area where our dog is hiding and its impossible to get through so we couldnt get any further. Even the next day she called to after two days we ended up finding him. Jan is amazing I would 1000% recommend her to anyone!
Jan is absolutely amazing. We call her the Dog Whisper in our family. We have three dogs, with three different personalities and have tried other trainers and training methods, that just didnt work. We have two wire-haired pointing Griffons, 1 1/2 & 2 1/2 years old, and an 8 year old Maltese/Mini Aussie mix. In as little as 2 training sessions for each of the Griffons, we started to see positive results. She even gave us training tips on the 8 year old, who happens to be the alpha of the pack. For the first time, I feel confident as their handler and know Jan is there to rescue me, if I need help along the way. She loves what she does and it shows. She takes the time to address any questions or concerns that each and every one of her clients has. She truly cares about your dog(s) and you as a handler. Everyone with a four legged family member should go to Jan at Live Oak Dog Obedience.
Jan has done wonders with my newly adopted German Shepard. She has helped instill confidence in her and trained me so I can continue to train her and enforce what she has learned.
Jan at Live Oak Dog Obedience is absolutely amazing! I started my rambunctious puppy in her classes and within weeks he made huge progress. She helped with basic commands, leash training, biting, barking, potty training, e collar training and so much more. I still take my dog to her classes to continue his training.
When we adopted our German Shepard / Aussie mix, she was a wild, aggressive and anxious 1 year old. We heard about Jan and Live Oak through one of my husbands co-workers. I was super hesitant of taking our girl to a class, because of how she is around other dogs and strangers. But after our first class, she was a completely different dog! She actually walked with us, rather than pulling us the whole time and she learned to listen so well. We also attended an e-collar class and tried that out, which was one of the best decisions for us. My pup whom used to be naughty, aggressive towards kids and a poor listener, is now best friends with my 4 year old nephew, walks like a lady and listens to every command on the spot. Jan knows how to train people to train their dogs! I would recommend Like Oak to absolutely everyone I know that needs a good trainer!
Jan and her classes have change our lives. I have a 7 year old golden that was well trained as a puppy but we got lazy and she wasnt socailized alot after 2 years old. We recently moved into an apt and 2 weeks in she charged while barking and scared a neighbor in their garage. My husband and i were so embrassed and recognized that we needed help we look at boot camps and other schools and they were starting at least 1000 dollars for only 2 weeks, distressed about the price and what i was going to do i remember my friends dog, who is amazingly trained and got Jans info from her. I wrote and I got answer within 24 hours to invited us to a class. A couple months later you wouldnt recognize our golden as the same dog. She more relaxed in public, great at her training and generally likes going out with us to train and meet people. Jan takes a personalize approach to how she teaching you and you dog even in a group setting. She understands dogs mannerisms behavior and psychology. Jan is a master in adjusting her technique to fit your needs and your dogs needs. We live going to our classes each week and the training has completely change our lives, no more being scare of my dog acting out and being confident enough with her to take her along anywhere we can! If you need any kind of help look into Jan great training and great prices!
I bought a 9 mo. old Yorkie from a lady who had him for 2 weeks she bought him from the original family . I needed to find a trainer to help me not just teach him good manners but I had to work on the habits from his first family. Ive been to 3 classes so far I realzed not only is he learning but Im learning how to be a better leader so ere both learning. Jan is straight forward she helps all in class to relax and not feel like they have to keep up with each other were all different with different dogs it can get frustrating you just have to keep practicing youll get it. I have 3 other dogs over the years and wish Id had Jan to help. I like the way she teaches and she responds quickly to emails.
She not only trains the dogs, but us too.
Jan is an amazing trainer and I would highly recommend this course. Our puppy graduated in just two weeks with all the help from Jan. TAKE YOUR DOG TO HER!!!
Such an amazing Trainer. Jan was amazing at listening to our dog Coco s needs and addressed them in the perfect way! She has an amazing way of teaching you how to better connect with your pet! Forever grateful! Enroll in her classes TODAY!
I have recommended Jan to so many people! She has a passion for working with dogs and their owners. She explains the reason behind everything and is not pushy. One of my favorite take always from the classes is that she starts by talking to all owners and answering questions. This helps the dogs get to know each other in a calm way and taught my dog to relax when I am talking with someone.
Jan is wonderful. So glad treats aren t her reward of choice. With a 100lb Bernese it is great to have a dog who doesn t bark, doesn t pull and loves to scent. Wish I d started with Jan.
Jan is amazing. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Jan with Live Oak Obedience. She is so nice and friendly. Her classes are flexible and so helpful! She will help your pooch become the best possible version of them self. She can help with the playful dog, aggressive or behavioral issues, or just the basic puppy commands.
Well where do I start. Jan is amazing. The structure of the training is impeccable. I have a 10 month old GSD/Malamute mix and he is a big dog. I was so worried about going to class, thinking he would act up, but instead he was so good. I couldn t believe it. I was in shock. We had a lesson at the park and I really thought It would be a bad experience and anxiety kicked in..oh what stress I had. Jan eased my stress and it was such a great lesson. Thanks Jan for all you do.
she is honestly the most brilliant person regarding the teaching of animals.
Jan is AMAZING!!! So patient with newbies and advanced. I love how she is all in and is such a natural at training dogs. She can see things the dog will do before an owner can. The key is to actually implement what she tells you to do. If you follow her advice and training you re dog will be doing what you want in no time.
We are now beginning training with Jan for our second puppy. As new dog owners, we were pretty clueless as first. Jan was so patient and taught us so much about dogs, their language, needs, and challenges. We went through puppy school and then many classes for beginners. Thanks to all we learned, this second puppy is a breeze compared to the first. She LOVES dogs and has so much experience. We mostly go to the South Jordan location, but have been to the Sandy location a few times too. She does basic training, but also offers classes on agility, e-collar, rattlesnake safety and more.
We just complete rattlesnake avoidance class that Jan had arranged. It was incredible. Now my very curious puppy knows not everything is a toy to play with. Jan is so passionate about working with all types of dogs and PEOPLE so that we can all be good citizens. I wish every dog owner would take the responsibility to have a well behaved dog. I enjoy the compliments I get from people about how nice my dog acts, and I have Jan to thank.
Very knowledgeable, great technique and passion.
My dog was a nightmare. Jasper was about 5 when we adopted him and I had the dream of doing all things one does with a happy dog. But he must have been traumatized which made him AGGRESIVE. Not only was it totally heartbreaking when he attacked other dogs but we also had to pay for it. I found Live Oak and it has made all the difference. Jan taught me how to be a dog owner. While my dog is still on high alert when we go out he trusts me more and he knows what good behavior is. If your dog pulls you down the street, sits on the furniture, begs for food, doesn t let you through the door first, barks at the door, lives on your lap, bites, can t sit, stay, wait, or come you need some training. Give Jan 6-8 months and you will be so much happier with your dog. An obedient dog is a happy dog. Thanks Jan! Love you. You re the best.
We LOVE working with Jan! She not only helps us with our dogs manners and obedience, but has helped us get our shy puppy to be more confident. She takes the time to work on skills that we each need, and lets the dogs go at the pace that works for them. We were also lucky enough to take the Rattlesnake Avoidance class with Web Parton. The way that he works the dogs directly with the snakes, and teaches them in layers what to avoid was perfect! It was awesome to see the difference from the curious dogs in the beginning, to the cautious and aware behaviors they show at the end. Would highly recommend for anyone! Thank you for working with us and our Izzy!!
Jan has helped me with obedience and other speciality training (scent and rattle snake avoidance) with my German Shepherds. She offers simple straight forward advice. She loves and respects my dogs. I like her approach to dog training, she uses the wolf pack mentality. I have experienced Jan in private 1:1 lessons and in a group setting, she is a highly skilled trainer with a wealth of knowledge to help raise a great well behaved dog.
Jan is an amazing trainer who has a genuine love and respect for dogs. We called Jan from a referral, and talked us through what to do and helped us every step of the way, even helping us choose which breed would be right for our home. Every class she is quick to answer questions and give helpful advice to help us be more successful along with our dog! Every class is motivational and I feel like I should be taking notes from everything me and my wife learn! Thanks Jan!!
Jan is amazing. She trains people so that their dogs can understand what these people are trying to convey to their dogs. She is patient, thorough, fun to work with, has a wide variety of classes and training times. But foremost, she is very knowledgeable and her methods are effective. Shes knows dogs and people and applies this knowledge to her work. Shes a professional and a pleasure to know and work with.
Jan is an experienced & talented trainer! She is friendly, much of her training is intuitive & just makes sense. She can help if youre training for competition or simply want a K9 companion thats a good citizen. Aside from obedience, she can also help with agility & scent work! Shes the only trainer that Ive heard of that sponsors a class to help keep your dog safe from rattlesnakes, which is huge if you enjoy hiking in the foothills with your dog. Yes, the classes utilizes live rattlesnakes!
Extremely gifted instructor, I fully support and offer my vote of confidence. You will not be disappointed, if you put in the work you will see results.
We took my dog to Jan for training as a puppy. He is now 4 years old and every bit as well behaved as when we finished training. This woman does it all! Manners, behavior, problem solving, agility, really scent training, the list goes on and on. The training was fun, affordable and effective!
Jan is fantastic and I love working with her. I have an Australian Shepherd/Poodle mix puppy and Jan has been excellent at teaching me how to train my puppy. I went into her class thinking wed be learning a bunch of cool tricks, but that is not what Jan is about. Jan focuses on teaching dogs manners and how to be polite on a leash - behavior that really matters. After every class I see an improvement in my puppy, and Jan helps me know how to reinforce those behaviors. Highly recommend!!
We (and our dogs) love Jan! Shes very much in tune with how dogs behave and interact with one another, as well as with humans. She takes a very humane, but stern approach to training and will always do whats best for your pet. Ive never had such polite dogs and I feel so much more empowered to understand how they interact with others in order to read their needs better. In general, I believe my relationship has never been stronger with them and we highly recommend her services!
I have worked with Jan for the previous 5 months with my Giant Schnauzer. I really need my pup to help me emotionally and physically. I have a brain tumor as well as Thyroid and Adrenal Inefficiencies, while I know that only so much can be trained, Jan has done a wonderful job showing me the ropes and getting me to a place where my dog respects me and shows me obedience, especially with my conditions. Thank you Jan
Jan is very helpful, personable & knowledgeable about all the dogs, their behavior & how to be a better human/dog owner.... She is always good with giving advice, even just by email. I have had one on one training with her & have attended her classes...
Jan is absolutely amazing! I was referred to her from a friend and I have referred her to all my friends with dogs wanting to train! I live in Davis county and the drive is well worth it. I have been training with her for about 4 months and I get compliments all the time on how well behaved my dog is and that is just from the beginner class! Would recommend to everyone! Jan loves what she does and she is training you and not the dog so you get long term results!
This is the best dog training in town.
Jan at Live Oak Dog Obedience is the dog whisperer! She is truly gifted with the animals. We have enjoyed her elementary classes, have moved to Intermediate and will stay as long as were learning into advanced! Her classes are held regularly at dimple Dell Recreation Center (inside or out weather permitting) and are very reasonably priced. Im glad we found Jan and LODO!. Thanks!
