Called this store to see if they still had any live black worms. Employee says they have 2oz. left, so I immediately rushed over there and purchased them. I should have looked at them closer because 95% of them were dead. Not to mention, black worms need to have the water changed frequently to thrive/live. This water must ve been sitting there unchanged for a very long time because it was thiiiiiiiick. I know it gets thick fairly quickly, but this was the thickest I have seen and smelled far worse than the ones I have purchased there in the past. So they shouldn t have been selling those in the first place when they aren t properly cared for. I quickly changed their water to see if that would help. But nope, most were lifeless. Anyway, I called the store and asked what could be done about it, and they said there s no warranty or refund on the worms. My axolotls won t even touch them when this is their favorite food. I have no idea where to get their food from anymore. Always loved this shop, but they have severely disappointed me this time.

Over crowded.. that s all I should say. The animals, snakes, birds, rodents, lizards etc all have small small cramped cages.. help these animals out by giving them a new home. As one would imagine, the store smells foul due to the over crowding and cramped quarters all the animals are in.

I visited Marks ark.i today I purchased some Tetris pro tropical fish crisp I dont buy this stuff very often but I bought it from them and the price was $29.99 a can. I got home and my dad said that this was way too much money he can get it on Amazon for $18.99 for two. 6.70 OZ. Cans. When I called Marks ark back and asked him if I could Return it.that it was too much money he said they dont have a return policy he told me that I would have to keep it or get in store credit I told him I didnt want either one they just told me thats the price of retail !. thats a cop out .is ripping the customer off and I guess if theyre okay with that not a good place to shop then.

Not even sure how this place has a average of 4.3 stars. Sell out reviews if you ask me... Very poor maintenance of all animals... And RIDICULOUSLY OVERPRICED INVENTORY. Really, not even sure how they are in business. Went in to look at a Seachem Tidal 110 to compare prices, IT WAS $140... HOW? Its $75 on Amazon and $100 at pets and such.

the way they package their feeder rats seems pretty inhumane to me, they put them in a tiny takeout box with no bedding so the rat ends up covered in urine i know that they are feeders but they should still be treated with respect before they die. and i asked if they were separated by sex and i got no answer from the employee their pond fish tank outside is absolutely filthy and honestly i dont think i will be coming back again

Honestly, one of my favorite pet stores. The people here are so nice. Take the time to answer any questions that you have and have everything that you need. They have a wide variety of animals. I can t say enough good things about this place

Decent selection, EDITED. This place is half decent most of the time, I decided to ride my electric scooter to the shop today to grab some crickets, I figured no need to start up my car living so close. I got there and noticed no spot to lock it up so I figured I would just park it inside the door and grab the crickets I needed real fast and get out of the way. Parking lot complete ghost town by the way. As I walked in the door I was told that they can t have them in the store and that I m just following rules so I mentioned it would have never been in the store if there was maybe a place to lock it up outside. Long story short. The place has got your basic necessities. Everything beyond that is overpriced or sick. Stick to your local pet stores outside of this one. Loved this place, Good place that s just gone bad, we will see how long it lasts

Went in today to buy my ball python a medium size rat. They have 3 Bins of live rats. Small 5.99, medium 9.99, large 11.99. The medium size was empty so instead of going to the back the worker grabbed one from the small bin and still charged me for the medium. I paid the higher price. If $4 is worth the negative google review for doing shady business then Im happy to give you what you charged for. Ill also be looking for a new pet shop to buy my feeders.

They sold a sickly bearded dragon and didn t tell us the correct information about our bearded dragons and one of them passed away due to the lack of information that we needed to know about our lizard baby

This is an extremely disappointing pet store. They re filled with variety and show off pretty enclosures but the back is filled with poor husbandry and overcrowding. There s no reason for adult beardies and leopard geckos to live together it is proven they ll tear each other apart. The monitor species in the back have tiny sad excuses for cages that lack subrate depth and they don t even bother to give them proper hides. Which speaking of back to the leopard geckos they use see through containers with doors cut out as hides which defeats the entire purpose of a hide since they can still be seen. They have 2 starving veiled chameleons one of which is a baby. None of these reptiles are priced to sell and half of them aren t getting the food and attention they need. This place was more disappointing than any petco or pet smart I ve ever been to

Yeah I understand how people can like to go here but the way the birds and lizards are treated are terrible but not only that If you were to get some of there worms you will notice that there food is a dark brown I have breaded my own worms before and they are not making the right food for the worms they get fat faster and is bad for your lizards!! Just go down the street some more and you can get better food for your lizards

Will never understand how this place has above 4 stars as an average rating. Ive been to a lot of reptile and pet stores in Utah and this one is one of the saddest. The husbandry is really bad. They house so many reptiles together that really shouldnt be. I cant go in here without just feeling gross.

The variety of species is many and the care of the animals is very nice. If you want a reptile, I know you will find it here. The information is good, but the staff is somewhat questionable when it comes to offering their merchandise.

Love this place ! This is the only pet shop I use in the salt lake valley. Great fish, reptile, arachnid selection. And they have some small furry creatures as well lol. (Ferrits, gerbils, rats, Guinea pigs, Chinchillas)

I went and bought a lizard here and they had 3 dead in a cage with 5 more lizards all in the same small terrarium. I told the guy about it and he claimed that was normal the life was literally sucked out of them and they had been in there for so long that they were all decaying on top of each other . I d be aware before you go and spend your money here . I Highly suggest you go to pets and such which is about 10 to 12 min from this pet shop . They actually care about there animals and explain to you how to properly care and give your pet the best experience at life.

Absolutely terrible after buying multiple snakes and giving them breeders they have shown their true colors treating a valuable customer terrible such a bummer maybe don t hang up on 1000s of dollars Dakota deserves a pay cut I would never treat a customer in such a way. Hope they haven t killed the breeders I ve given them in the past. Will be switching Utah reptile dealers

Alivia was outstanding. She helped us pick out bearded dragens and a good habit for them. She was very knowledgeable and effecient.

I took my sulpher crested cockatoo to clip his wings and nails as they were doing that they showed us where they keep their birds with no uv lights which parrots need for at least 8 hours a day minimum as well as keeping them in the back almost storage closet looking dark corner. As well as feeding them only seeds (which is not healthy for parrots of any kind) DO NOT TAKE YOUR BIRDS HERE THEY SEVERELY MISTREAT/NEGLECT THEIR ANIMALS I know what sounds my cockatoo makes and I had never heard him scream the way he was (almost in pain sounding) while taking him to clip his wings and simply file his nails anywhere else.

This place does not know how to take care of birds! I took my cockatoo here and I have never heard him scream the way he did. My cockatoo never acts the way he did after we got him back. They keep their birds in the back corner of the store. The ceiling is falling through above the birds. They have no UV light which they require 10 hours a day of. Their diet is just seeds which is just a fat diet and no nutrients. I was very nervous and try to ask questions and the guy wouldn t even make eye contact much with me. I m never gonna take my parrot here again. I d have better luck doing it myself.

Ive been going to Marks ark for about 20 yrs. Love the staff. Have never had any problems with anything I ever bought there. Always tell everyone to go there for their exotic pets and supplies.

In the very few times i ve been here, not once have i been impressed. They take away snake hides so the snakes MUST be visible at all times, that s inhumane. They toss crickets to their exotic cats to gain attention, and their animals are kept in cages WAY too small. ball pythons do NOT belong in a critter keeper. i purchased a very large 40 gallon front open enclosure a few days back, it was sitting out front discounted at $90, still wrapped in shipping plastic and cardboard with the lid pieces covering the bottom glass. the owner, mark, had walked up to me and i asked him if it was broken or missing pieces, since it was discounted. HE SAID NO. the girl who checked us out had no idea what she was selling us. i took it home and the entire bottom glass was shattered, missing the lock, and broken locking mechanism. Mark told me nothing was wrong, broken, or missing. He lied right to my face. i had to glue it together to make it work, or else they would have put me out $96 and i wouldn t have been able to house my corn snake. all the pets look depressed and sit there with their mouths hanging open. the place is hot and stuffy, the smell from the back room smacks you when you walk in. DO NOT SHOP HERE.

Neat little store. I enjoy coming here, but very high prices for dubias and feeder mice. I pay about triple the price here for dubias and mice so I only come when I m in a pinch. I got 2 medium mice for $21 here and normally I spend $7 for a medium ($3) and a large ($4) where I usually buy. I also get large dubia about 100 for $30. Here I spend about $40 for 30 dubias. Highly over priced.

Marks Ark has the best selection of animals/pets in the valley. Theyve been doing it longer than I can remember. As a child, I was always so excited to go to Marks Ark just to look at all the exotic animals. Ive purchased several pets from them over the years, and Ive never once had any real issues. Small things are bound to happen, but when they do Marks Ark has handled them without question.

Very surprised at the lack of attention to the reptile tanks. The last couple of visits here make Petsmart look professional. Employees didn t seem to care to be there and had attitude. Especially the blonde girl.

They have cool stuff, but most of the animals do not have the proper enrichment they need to keep them occupied while in their enclosures. They are also unwilling to help with any faulty equipment. Total rip off, and poor animal care.

Not impressed with how they kept their tarantulas. They had multiple that were in a death curl and one that was dead. The substrate was extremely dry and the tarantulas didnt look well at all!

I was looking for some additions to my crab tank and I was greeted by awesome staff and even the store cat! I ended up spending an hour in the store looking at all the different kinds of fish, reptiles, and birds they got for sale. Definitely one of a kind local shop to visit!

I emailed them not once but twice about taking my two yellow belly slider turtles to them drove all the way down here from American fork and told they couldnt take them and if they knew what turtles they were they wouldve said no I showed them the emails where I stated multiple times they were yellow belly sliders and they said oh sorry miss communication. Ridiculous. And being accused of swearing at your employee go ahead and look at your camereas when I simply showed her the email I was sent and she couldnt even read it and she just kept repeating over and over oh well we are full but looking at the reviews many have had issues with the same blond hair girl having attitude and not professional so before you ACCUSE CUSTOMERS instead you should know your facts and speak with your employees. If I was doing what you said I did wouldnt more people like a manager or someone get involved when all I spoke to was the blonde girl and I was in your store for less then 3 minutes very professional of you guys. Once again must be your miss communication like you guys said you have.

The people here are nice. All the workers are helpful and nice. However, the husbandry for the animals is terrible. There is an iguana in a tank so small he can only do a 360 turn. There are tanks with 5 bearded dragons crammed in, displaying aggressive behavior. There is a chameleon with mouth rot inside of a horizontal tank. This place NEEDS to take better care of their animals, it is sad and scary to see. The husbandry is abysmal, they are still keeping leopard geckos on reptile carpet.

I go into marks ark weekly to get feeder rats for my snakes. I love the experiance I get walking in there. They always have what we need and more. Love the gentlemen working there their always very helpful and kind. Highly recommend to anyone!

Sold my wife a ferret and a piece of junk cage for 730. Cage fell apart and all they wanted to do was a take a look at it. Not refund the 169 for cage. You are better off getting a cage on Amazon. Found one twice the size and metal for 125. These guys are only in it for the money. Terrible customer service.

The guys that work there are so kind and knowledgeable. I went in needing a lamp for my sulcata tortoise. The employee explained the different brands, benefits, and warranty of each lamp and light. He also explained how often I should switch out the light. While there, I noticed they had a wide variety of animals and reptiles. Along with homes, foods, and necessary supplies needed to prove excellent care for your pet. If youre thinking about purchasing a pet, I recommend going there.

The best pet store Ive been to in the area. Their selection is pretty incredible for reptiles and arachnids, and its more entertaining to look at than most zoos. They even have ferrets and chinchillas, which I havent seen in big stores for a while. Their fish selection is also extensive. As is their selection of pet supplies. If you need dubias for your lizard, this is the place to buy them. They seem pretty knowledgeable, though not particularly forthcoming and friendly - you kind of need to know how to ask them questions, or which questions to ask. But theyll know how to take care of your new pet, so make sure to get instructions. I wouldnt say the prices are fantastic, but if youre looking for something in particular, theyll probably have it.

Great selection in feeder rats especially and the price on supplies is all around better than other reptile shops I ve been to. I ve bought 2 snakes and one gecko from this store and all have been perfectly healthy. Staff has always been so helpful and full of information on the animals that they sell. Will be shopping here forever.

I purchased a tiger-leged tree frog from here on the 21st of April it died on the 29th of April. The pet recipe that was filled out by the employee that sold it to us stated that you have 14 days to return it if anything happens including death. We took it in today which is May 1st and they refused to to take it back and return the money we spent on it. He then told us we only had 48 hours to bring it back.

We adopted 2 rats and the staff was awesome! We will come back.

Once I started getting into insects, this place became my favorite again. I used to shop here when I was 5 years old, back 33 years ago. This store has been here for a very long time. I was into reptiles back then. They have all kinds of insects. And they have isopods! They are behind the counter, so youll have to ask to look at them. They have almost every type of isopod there is. And they are reasonably priced. Isopods are great for kids, cleaning up terrariums, or just to have as a pet in general. For most people here, they are rolly pollys, pill bugs, or sow bugs.

Ive had horrible luck there with fish guiana pigs turtles and Frogs its sad to see animals die because of disease but I picked them out is what it is the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about things but I havent been recently its been a good 20 years or so I was actually buying pond plants in front of Marcs ark

Good severs

The reason for going here was quite unfortunate. We had a leopard gecko that stopped eating. She refused to eat for months. We tried everything (hand feeding, using gel foods, ect). We donated her to marks ark in hopes that he could save her life and he took her in without question and without guilt tripping me. While in there noticed the vast array of different animals. Very DIY style shop which is awesome to see. Give them your business. Theyre good ppl who deserve it.

This place has the largest variety of reptiles and arachnids that I have ever seen in a pet store. It is amazing! They also have other animals. All of the critters looked pretty healthy and well cared for. I would go back for new pets or per supplies.

I go here to get mice for my Ball Python and they are half the cost for Petco.

Little to crowed but has alot of cus and little creatures

They do not refund your money...store policy...and have questionnable suppliers: I bought a large bag of Pretty Bird bird food @ $75.00: found it contaminated with insect larvae when I got home. They said No Refund, just store credit so theyve replaced it but with a different brand since they were out of the original brand. My birds didnt like the new kind at all so I ended-up having to throw it away...(meaning Ive lost my money). I went back few months later and this time checked the bag before buying it: full of insect larvae again! They said its normal, happens all the time, just put it in the freezer! Needless to say I no longer shop there: I found better Customer Respect and a Full Refund Policy at BIG NAME pet stores...

I was fairly unimpressed, if not really turned off. I thought it looked good in the reviews and photos, and to be fair they had a great selection of supplies, and some pretty exotic interesting animals. Prices seemed decent and fair. My complaints though were that it was crammed and stuffy in there, it smelled very strongly of weed, and not to judge, but I would bet the employees may have been high, but they were still quite knowledgeable, so that doesnt bother me. The animals did look a bit crammed in there and not real happy, but they looked clean and well kept. My biggest complaints that were unacceptable were that they had a rubber snake poking out in one of the aisles, ha ha I get it, but thats quite startling for anybody and it seriously turned me off the store and I just wanted to leave at that point, Im not even scared of snakes. The second that was even more egregious was they had a dog in the back office that looked very poorly kept, and quite possibly beaten. It looked a bit...sad, and just not well kept. It was excited to see a customer, but terrified to leave the room, and when one of the employees walked past it it cowered like it was waiting to be beaten again. I didnt actually see abuse, so I have no proof, but it was another thing that made me angry and just want to leave and not return. I would not recommend this place unless you didnt care about anything except getting the supplies you need. That was my impression.

Just moved here and decided to give this place a try as I keep multiple types of exotics. Yikes. Negative reviews are spot on. Learn from hobbyists and exotic pet owners in Utah that warn you of this place and don t give them your business. To the store-If you want to be a go-to private supply/pet store for locals in Sandy, take these customers advice. I m in a private reptile keeping group and was surprised to have multiple individuals reach out to me, warning me about this place after asking where the best stores are. Having poor customer service, unclean store conditions, unhappy animals (some dead some very sick), and horribly high prices, will not help you in the long run. Chewing out those who leave negative reviews here also does not look good for the store or the owner. Hopefully changes are made soon, this was really sad to see.

A large collection of animals and they know What theyre talking about.

The store is chaotic. Lots of dust and neglected looking animals. The store is very small quarters for so many animals and thats probably why they look neglected. When I shop for animals or arachnids I always try to go to the stores that have the sicker animals so I can get them out of their situation and nurse them back to health. I know that sounds silly but it is rewarding. I bought a beautiful Tarantula from them. The tarantula needed a larger enclosure for how big she was. Im so glad we took her home. Shes thriving now. Shop around and do your research on the animal(s) youre going to buy. It helps in stores like this one.

Everything they have is way overpriced! I get it because of Covid but this place has the worst pricing when it comes to fish and supplies. I ve been to other stores and there pricing is very fair. If your going for fish go to waterfront or pets and such. They are ridiculous. Btw it s always been this way with them even before Covid

Not happy with the way I was treated by the manager/partner, refused to give me credit for something I no longer needed because it was broke went to Petco and about a new one thinking I could get a credit but was told all sales are final I dont recomend to any one unless you like being treated unfairly

Bad customer service, it s pretty frowned upon to cohabit different species but they do it a lot. They should stop trying to have more inventory than they can care for. So I guess they don t truly care about the animals. I ve also noticed majority of their snakes in the back (smaller ones) are kept in tiny critter keepers. No space for the animal to even move around. The only thing I like about this store is the hidden fake snakes to scare people, pretty funny. Other than that I would 100% not recommend. They up charge an insane amount on animals you can find for half or 1/3 of the price they re asking.

Just found out about this store and they have an amazing array of reptiles, turtles, snakes, even spiders. My grandkids thinks its awesome.

Sold my buddy a retired breeder leopard gecko we tried everything we could just to see it die in our care its ridiculous there getting away with selling sick animals

The fish are very expensive it says how much they are on the glass tanks but when you get up to the cash register they charge more I think they re charging more for the seven day insurance I paid way over price for The four fish I have purchased

Been going here since I was a kid always a good time. The staff there are very knowledgeable.

I went in for a jumping spider enclosure. They had one for my adult spider and a transitional one for my sspiderling. Ultimately I bought a permanent one online for my spiderling. The lady who helped me was so very helpful she personally walked me around to everything I needed and was very kind. The spooders are happy. Thanks guys!

Love this place staff is always friendly

Maybe I m not caught up with 2022 but I believe being nice to your customers over the phone is a pretty common sense thing. There is no excuse for the attitude I got for asking about buying a simple spider for the joke of an employee over the phone.

This is by far the best exotic pet store in Utah and beats any other store within 500 miles easily. Insane variety of reptiles and morphs of them. Customer service is also great. Shop cat is worth atleast $20k.

I can find all the supplies and animals I want. The workers know what the animals need and they take care of them.

It was amazing much better then going to petco and petsmart they have different types of lizards, snakes, and has monitor lizards and many bearded dragons, and different types of ball pythons

We love coming here. So many reptiles, fish, bengal cats, chinchillas, various insects. Great pet supplies, friendly knowledgeable staff. Business has been here for decades. I loved it as a kid and love it as an adult too. We bought a ball python here and it s super sweet and healthy. We love this pet store!

Very friendly staff and always a big selection on pets. My son loves to walk around and look at all the animals. We had a blast today. My 15 month old loved looking at every cage and tank they have. My wife wants the Bengal cat

My first visit. I was impressed by how much variety they have! Lots of animals. Lots of equipment. Every employee I interacted with was friendly, helpful, full of information, and happy! Very positive energy!

Our favorite place to go when we visit Salt Lake! Unfortunately some of the staff could be a little more kind. Wanted to buy a purple tegu monitor after visiting several times throughout the year and wasn t even given the opportunity to see it. Please don t prejudge people, it hurts. I have had plenty experience owning reptiles, including tegu monitors, Burmese pythons, savannah monitors, water dragons, frilled dragons I know the responsibilities and wouldn t visit the same monitor at the same shop several times without asking to see it months later for no reason.

Pricey, really crowded, definitely a cool place tho.

I really like this place. Got my chameleon and bearded dragon here. Both are healthy and doing well. Their selection is top notch. Its a bit crowded, as the store is kind of small, but it works. I hope they can get popular enough to expand their store or move to a bigger location.

They are crooks. They take a donated fish and sale it at ridiculous prices. I know because I lve donated a lot of fish to them. Its all the profit though right. At least they have cleaned the aquariums up a bit, business practices match the smell of the store

Good service and prices, a decent selection. That its been in business for decades says a lot. I feel better about the quality of my purchases here than at the big chains.
